Audio Visual (inc. VAD's)

A generic image

Following the introduction and increasing popularity of EN54-23 Compliant VADs (Visual Alarm Device) we are using abbreviations to help clarify the large number of body colour and flash colour combinations available from different manufacturers.

VAD's use high intensity LEDs and need to meet a minimum of 0.4 Lux in a coverage volume for either Ceiling, Wall or Open Class classifications. The coverage met is often included in the Name or Description of the device.

VID (Visual Indicator Device) is being used more and more for what we all know as Beacons. These could be LED or Xenon but they do not have the intensity of the VADs. They are not designed to be a Primary source of Alarm.

Body Colours: RB = Red Body, WB = White Body, IB = Ivory Body, BB = Black Body

Flash Colours: RF = Red Flash, WF = White Flash, AF = Amber Flash. Other Flash colours are sometimes available dependant on the Manufacturer. Also note, a device with a Clear Lens does not necessarily mean a White Flash.

Base Versions: DB = Deep Base, SB = Shallow Base
